Our Orthopaedic Foundation was established in 1999 as a philanthropic foundation with a mission for education, research and community service. Through its Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, the foundation educates sports medicine experts of the future and performs cutting edge research. Additionally, it engages in educational activities designed to promote scientific information on injury prevention and treatment to medical professionals and the public.

Giving Back to the Community Through Research & Care
Building on the tradition and commitment established by Doctors Robert Kerlan and Frank Jobe, our Orthopaedic Foundation has carried out numerous research projects whose findings directly benefit the community. Research continues to be performed around youth pitching biomechanics and injury prevention, along with knee injury prevention and other areas, working with athletes from local schools who cooperate as study participants. Results of these studies are then brought back to the community for implementation with local sports teams through Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe physicians and coaches, athletic trainers and athletes.
Our Orthopaedic Foundation also provides on-field game coverage for high school sporting events and pre-season examinations for some teams from Los Angeles area high schools that can’t otherwise afford access to quality medical care. Other areas of research supported by our Orthopaedic Foundation include tendon repair, articular cartilage restoration, ligament reconstruction, the role of biologics in healing and improved surgical outcomes.
Upholding a Legacy of Excellence in Sports Medicine
Throughout their innovative careers in sports medicine, Dr. Kerlan and Dr. Jobe were passionate about promoting education and research. Our Orthopaedic Foundation ensures that their vision for excellence in leadership and innovation in sports medicine continues into the future. As evidenced by the many alumni of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program who have and will continue to be key players in sports medicine throughout the country, Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe will continue its commitment and leadership in Sports Medicine for years to come.
